At Tallgrass, we are dedicated to investing in our people — we’ll say it with confidence, we’re more dedicated than anyone else in the freight industry. We provide an environment where our agents are able to thrive and grow their book of business. If you’re serious about your career, you deserve the very best in agent development. And that’s what you’ll get at Tallgrass, including our annual Agent Roundtable.
“No one else in the freight agent world is doing this, and we’re here to take better care of our agents than anyone else in the business,” says Tallgrass COO and co-owner David Barnes.
Year after year, we hold our Agent Roundtable event in Kansas City to help our freight agents develop both personally and professionally. In April 2021, we once again welcomed our agents from all over the United States to partake in our agent mastermind. Agents flew in from coast to coast (literally, California to Connecticut!), and met for a fun weekend full of education and empowerment.
Our Roundtable has become an incredible tradition over the years, starting with an iconic location. We hosted our event at the modern new Loews Hotel in downtown Kansas City, the perfect setting with beautiful KC views and extraordinary accommodations and amenities. We kicked off the day with a gourmet breakfast while agents met and mingled.
When your book of business continues to grow and you’re earning top-tier compensation, it is crucial to understand how to manage it! That’s why we kicked off our Roundtable with some of the best financial planning experts in the country, from the renowned firm Creative Planning. In an open Q-and-A format, they discussed strategies to invest and save for the future, advice for estate planning, investment diversification and so much more. Nothing was off the table!
Even the best freight agents in the country only have 24 hours in the day! So when you’re already successful and want to grow to new heights, expanding your team is often the key to new levels of success. So our Roundtable also featured a panel of seasoned freight agents who dove deep into what it takes to hire an assistant to grow your agency.
“You can get anywhere you want to in this business and with this company,” said Tallgrass Freight founder and CEO Damon Anderson as he kicked off the panel. “We want to see all of you succeed, and we’re going to do everything it takes to get you there.”
The panel of agents candidly shared their personal Tallgrass experiences, the best practices for achieving sustainable growth and real, tangible takeaways for bringing an excellent assistant on board. And our agents in the audience were able to ask any and every question they had, from ways to improve quality of life, how to ensure the best service for customers, how to overcome obstacles, even how to structure an assistant’s compensation. Agents walked away with a thorough blueprint for how to grow their business.
“I look forward to seeing you on this panel someday!” Damon said to agents in attendance as he concluded the Roundtable. “You’re in a unique position and you can achieve anything you want to as part of this company.”
One of the best aspects of the Roundtable weekend is the camaraderie. It wouldn’t be a weekend in Kansas City without some of the best barbecue in the country! So we toasted to huge success over burnt ends, pulled pork, ribs and much more at Jack Stack. Our company dinner is always memorable and a fantastic way to wrap up the weekend. The strong foundation of community at Tallgrass is just one of the many special elements that sets Tallgrass apart from the rest.
Continuing education is something we wholeheartedly value at Tallgrass. Education and agent development is at the core of our culture. Nobody invests in their agents like we do — and we strive to keep it that way.
