Tallgrass Gives Back: Announcing our 2020 Scholarship Recipients

Here at Tallgrass Freight Co., we love to give back. Generosity is ingrained in who we are, and it’s at the root of our company culture. Tallgrass gives back by being charitable to the communities that helped build us — because as big as we may grow, we never forget where we came from. In addition to giving back to a number of nonprofits, we’re humbled to offer scholarships.

“We grew up with strong community ties and benefited from others’ generosity along the way,” says CEO Damon Anderson. “So we consider it our privilege to be able to extend that same generosity.”

With that heart, Tallgrass Freight offers annual scholarships to graduates of Caney Valley Junior-Senior High School and Summer Academy — the alma maters of our co-owners, David Barnes and Damon Anderson. It’s our way of paying it forward and setting the stage for graduates to achieve their dreams.

The 2020 recipients from Sumner Academy, Damon Anderson’s high school alma mater, are Aliya Byers, Tenesha Carter Johnson and Paige Salas. Summer Academy is located in Kansas City, Kansas. Sumner serves as an IB World School, with a mission of creating “a culture of global thinking, which serves students beyond the classroom by developing knowledgeable, inquiring and caring young people.”
