Tech Talk: The Tallgrass CRM in Action

It’s no secret that we love our groundbreaking CRM at Tallgrass Freight. It’s built in-house, it’s made with our agents’ specific needs in mind and we’re constantly updating it with new features to make the system even more valuable to freight agents and their customers.

In this edition of “Tech Talk,” we’re sharing the inside scoop on the new features we’ve released in 2024 or are currently in development, plus an exciting new way for potential freight agents to experience our CRM firsthand before joining Tallgrass!

How It’s Going: 2024 CRM Features

The new Email Notification Engine is officially live, incorporating email notifications to agents and customers into the CRM. Currently, freight brokers receive an email update whenever they book freight or receive an invoice in the CRM, helping them stay on top of the ins and outs of their business. The CRM also sends email notifications to customers to celebrate their first shipment and the anniversary of that first shipment, a great way for agents to show how much they value their customers!

Where It’s Headed: Soon-to-Come CRM Features

We’re continuing to upgrade and enhance our CRM with features our agents can’t help but love, and that includes new updates both big and small! Here are a few updates currently in the works:

Franchise Mode

We first plugged this in our Tallgrass CRM anniversary tech talk, and we’re getting closer and closer to the release date! This enhanced security feature will allow our larger freight agencies to assign roles to their team members. We’re essentially rewriting the backend to make things a bit more stable and secure, but this feature will hopefully launch by the end of the year!

LTL Rating Engine

This is another feature we announced for 2024, and it’s currently in final testing before release! This new feature allows agents to book and quote LTL (less-than-truckload) shipments right within the CRM, making it easier for agents to expand their books of business into the world of LTL. Our VP of Information Technology John Ruf is looking forward to launching this exciting new feature. “It’s just a beautiful piece of work,” he said. “I cannot wait to get it into the agents’ hands. I think it’s going to be really exciting for them.” Especially for those agents looking to expand their capacity and level of service, this feature may end up being the favorite of 2024!

When Agents Help: The “What If” Program at Work

Many of the best updates to the CRM come directly from agent suggestions through the “What If?” program. This program really reflects what makes Tallgrass Freight unique. Team members or agents submit their ideas to improve the CRM. Green-light ideas are rewarded with $100 when the feature comes to life! “We are agent-focused,” says John. “We’re not a large corporation spinning out software. In the technology department, our main focus is building the application in a way that is useful and helpful to the main consumers of our product, which is the agents.”

John himself has submitted a What If ticket recently that will be coming soon to the CRM. Right now, when you hover over a person’s name in the CRM you get a small pop-up summarizing their basic information (name, email address, title). John’s idea was to apply a similar pop-up to shipment numbers, so that when a user hovers their mouse over the shipment number they will get a pop-up quickly summarizing all the basic information like addresses, margin and cost. This may seem like a small update, but these little enhancements that can make a huge difference for our agents as they spend so much time every day working within the CRM!
