Jody Evans knows freight, he knows people and after more than two decades across both worlds, he’s bringing both of those passions together as a Senior Agent Recruiter at Tallgrass. Jody first stepped into the industry in 2003 as a broker, and he realized he had a knack for building relationships and helping others succeed. He eventually moved into a training role, coaching new brokers out on the floor.

From there, he explored staffing, and although he found that placing accountants wasn’t exactly his thing, the joy of connecting with people and helping them find the right fit never left him. So he returned to his roots, spending another 12 years as a freight broker. In 2021, he made the leap back into recruiting at a security company, where he spent four years placing sales reps and discovering that helping people find where they belong was exactly what he was meant to do.

When that chapter came to a close, Jody already knew where he wanted to go next. He had watched Tallgrass grow from a distance for years, quietly admiring what he saw. And as it turned out, he already had a trusted friend inside the company: David Barnes.

Jody and Dave had stayed connected since their early freight industry days, and when the timing felt right, Jody picked up the phone. One conversation led to another, and before long, Jody had found his new home. “I’ve always thought I’d like to get back into freight, but as a recruiter,” Jody shares. “And I always saw the success that Tallgrass was doing. So I reached out to Dave, and here I am.”

In his role as a Senior Agent Recruiter, Jody is focused on expanding Tallgrass’s presence in the Kansas City area while continuing to recruit nationally. He describes his approach a little like fishing. “You know the waters, you’re looking for the right kind of fish and you know who’s going to thrive,” he says. And the people side of the job? That’s where Jody really lights up.
