As a Senior Agent Recruiter, Michaela Jacobson appreciates many aspects of Tallgrass, especially the transparency and respect that is woven into the TGF culture. “One thing I really like about Tallgrass is the culture that’s built around hard work, transparency and relationships,” she says. “Very seldom do you find a company that is truly straightforward with expectations and helps their employees attain success.”
Michaela brings nearly 14 years of experience in HR and recruiting, and she combines that background with her psychology education in her work each day. Michaela holds her Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology with an emphasis in Chemistry and Psychology from KU, and a nearly-complete Master’s degree in Psychology from Avila University. Before TGF, Michaela’s HR work included time with a global enterprise mobility solutions company, a global nonprofit focused on delivering clean water and sanitation solutions to developing countries, as well as a diagnostics and biopharmaceutical research company.
“Having a background in biology and psychology, and understanding people’s motivations, formulates a really solid approach to recruiting,” Michaela says. “I can understand what someone is really looking for in the next step in their career, and that’s one reason I enjoy my work.”
Michaela’s typical workday includes connecting with talented team members for the Tallgrass independent freight agent program. She enjoys engaging with potential freight agent candidates and getting to know her territory. And she likes to put her background in psychology to work every day: by understanding agents’ motivations, she can help ensure they’ll be successful as a Tallgrass freight broker.
Michaela loves how TGF has a startup feel, combined with access to the resources of an established organization. “It’s a unique combination,” Michaela says. “This is a team of straight shooters! The way Tallgrass operates with transparency is truly refreshing, and there’s never a time where I don’t feel respected or supported.”
Outside of work, Michaela continues to be a student of psychology as she completes her Master’s degree. She is very family-oriented and loves spending time with her son and two nieces. Michaela is an avid animal lover with two dogs, a cat and two birds. She also volunteers at Unleashed Pet Rescue and loves to foster young puppies.
